The Georgia E. Gregory Interdenominational School of Music welcomed BuildaBridge back in the late spring to facilitate a nature-based visual arts program: Gardens of Growth.
imagining our growth through nature
Garden of Growth was a four-week Saturday art program where students were able to create and have fun through art making. Students started in week one to imagine themselves as a plant or a vegetable. They then, were able to make their selected vegetable out of paper and paint it. Students worked in weeks 2 and 3 to imagine the environmental factors that would cause their fruit or vegetable to grow. They were able to connect these environmental factors to their own lives. Students thought meaningfully about who and what helps them to grow. These discussions would all contribute to the final week of art making where students would create a home for their fruit or vegetable. The students were able to create an environment that was sustainable for growth just as they also understood their own real life environments to be.
